Sweet Baby James Tears Up as DNC Dumps Dream Gig: 'Cue the World's Tiniest Violin'
Oh, look, James Taylor finally found some time between his cushy gig circuit and sipping chamomile to address his abruptly canceled DNC serenade. Because nothing says "progressive momentum" like a soft rock lullaby from the ‘70s.

The DNC's Missing Music Man: Where Was James Taylor?
Oh, the drama! The acclaimed singer-songwriter James Taylor was scheduled to grace the opening night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Fans expected a star-studded lineup featuring country music darling Mickey Guyton and Americana sensation Jason Isbell.
Alas, while Guyton and Isbell delivered their performances as promised, Taylor was a no-show on Day 1. The "Fire and Rain" singer was supposed to perform during the 9 p.m. block, right after first lady Jill Biden and daughter Ashley Biden, who introduced President Joe Biden with a speech that could melt even the coldest hearts.

The James Taylor Conundrum: Unraveling the Mystery
DNC officials, in their infinite wisdom, issued a statement acknowledging schedule delays. Taylor's performance? Not a peep about it.
Here’s their excuse:
"Because of the raucous applause interrupting speaker after speaker, we ultimately skipped elements of our program to ensure we could get to President Biden as quickly as possible so that he could speak directly to the American people," the statement read, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network.
"We are proud of the electric atmosphere in our convention hall and proud that our convention is showcasing the broad and diverse coalition behind the Harris-Walz ticket throughout the week on and off the stage."
So, in summary: raucous applause = missed performance. Thanks, liberal enthusiasts.
Taylor was apparently spotted rehearsing earlier in the day, practicing his 1971 hit "You've Got a Friend," according to social media footage.
James Taylor Speaks: An Instagram Apology
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Taylor finally addressed his absence.
"We had a great rehearsal with @RickeyMinor and terrific singers, @KenyaHathaway and Mathew Johnson before the event," Taylor wrote. "But it became clear, as the evening unfolded, that there wouldn't be time for our 'You've Got a Friend' with cello and voices. Maybe the organizers couldn't anticipate the wild response from the floor of the United Center…"
Allison Elbl, Taylor's publicist, told USA TODAY that there are no plans to reschedule.
"Anyway, sorry to disappoint," Taylor concluded. "But a great and inspirational, quintessentially American moment. We were honored to be there…"
