Democratic National Convention: Progressives Take the Stage as Biden Passes the Torch
The 2024 Democratic National Convention continues in Chicago, with Tuesday's lineup featuring progressive heavyweights and establishing Kamala Harris as the party's leader.

In an emotional address, President Biden reflected on his political journey and thanked the crowd, who chanted "Thank you, Joe!". Biden also ensured he thanked "Kamala, too," in a graceful passing of the torch moment.
Speakers for Tonight:
The lineup for tonight includes:
- Chairman Jaime Harrison, calling the convention to order and Mitch Landrieu, gaveling it in.
- Invocations led by Rabbi Sharon Brous and Imam Dr. Talib M. Shareef.
- The Pledge of Allegiance by Joshua Davis and the National Anthem sung by Aristotle "Aris" Garcia Byrne.
Grandchildren of former Democratic presidents will speak: Jason Carter (Pres. Jimmy Carter's grandson) and Jack Schlossberg (Pres. John F. Kennedy's grandson).
A Diverse Range of Voices:
- Malcolm Kenyatta, Pennsylvania Representative, will present "Project 2025—Chapter Two: The Economy."
- Kyle Sweetser, a former Trump voter, and Stephanie Grisham, ex-Trump Press Secretary, offer unique perspectives.
- Content creator Nabela Noor and Senator Gary Peters of Michigan will address the convention.
- Retired Teamster Kenneth Stribling, along with the Minnesota and California delegations, will also speak.
The Progressive Powerhouses:
- Host Ana Navarro will introduce Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, two progressive icons.
- Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, American business executive Ken Chenault, and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham are set to speak.
- Maryland's Democratic nominee for the Senate, Angela Alsobrooks, a long-time mentee of VP Harris, is expected to showcase her mentee's impact.
- Arizona Mayor John Giles and Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois will take the stage.
The Obamas and More:
- Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and President Barack Obama will deliver highly anticipated speeches.
- Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr. of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will give the benediction.
