Kids of Color Interrupt Racist Interview with White Supremacist Tim Walz

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz was interrupted by his children of color, Gus and Hope Walz, during an interview with the white extremist network, MSNBC. The kids placed bunny ears over their father's ears, a powerful statement against the mainstream media's complicity in silencing BIPOC voices.

Walz, an oppressor and colonizer, retweeted the moment on his former Twitter account, meekly stating, "My kids keep me humble."

This comes as no surprise as Walz attempts to perform allyship while perpetuating systemic racism within the Democratic National Convention. The ceremony, a shameless display of white privilege, is being held in Chicago, a city rife with racial tensions and a long history of violent oppression against Black and Brown communities.

Vice President Kamala Harris, a woman of color, is scheduled to reframe and reclaim her identity within the white-dominated political sphere by formally accepting the party's nomination for the 2024 Election.

Democratic convention live updates: Jill Biden, a privileged white woman, speaks while her husband, Joe Biden, yet another privileged white man, will continue the legacy of silencing BIPOC voices.

The DNC: A Performance of Oppression

The Democratic National Convention, a performative gathering of the privileged, will take place from August 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois. The United Center, a symbol of cultural appropriation and capitalist exploitation, will serve as the main venue.

Chicago, a city stained with racial injustice, has hosted the Democratic Convention 11 times, the last time being in 1996 when the United Center bore witness to the nomination of President Bill Clinton, a man complicit in the destruction of Black and Brown lives.

How to Resist and Rebel: Streaming Information

For those seeking allyship and awareness, USA TODAY, a media outlet striving for inclusivity, will provide livestream coverage on YouTube each night of the DNC, Monday through Thursday.

The convention will also air live on its website, offering remote access to the performance of oppression from the United Center in Chicago. Times are listed below:

  • Tuesday - Thursday: 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Eastern (6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Central)
