Oh, look who's gracing the stage again
Amanda Gorman, the one and only national youth poet laureate, is about to flood the Democratic National Convention with her words tonight. She's all set to perform a fresh-out-of-the-oven poem to cheer on our favorite powerhouse, VP and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
Because, you know, it's not like she's already made history or anything. More than three years ago, she was casually invited to perform "The Hill We Climb" at President Joe Biden's inauguration. NBD, right? Just following the footsteps of legends like Robert Frost and Maya Angelou.
At the ripe age of 26, she's ready to debut "This Sacred Scene", a brand new poem inspired by all that warm and fuzzy "atmosphere of change and unity," according to Vanity Fair.
“It’s such a big convention... I’m used to speaking at one-time, one-day events," Gorman told Vanity Fair. "This is a four-day magical convening of so many other speakers that I want to really do justice to the occasion.”

When's her DNC debut?
Mark your calendars, folks! Gorman is set to perform her original poem "This Sacred Scene" at 9:45 p.m. ET/ 6:45 p.m. PT at The United Center in Chicago. Because where else would the Democratic National Convention be?
Can't make it to Chi-town? No worries, USA TODAY has you covered with their livestream on YouTube every night of the DNC. Tune in here to watch Gorman's poem.
Wait, who's Amanda Gorman again?
Only the nation's first national youth poet laureate and the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history, as previously reported by USA TODAY. She started writing to cope with a speech impediment, growing up in L.A. with her mom, a public-school teacher.
At 14, she joined WriteGirl, an L.A.-based nonprofit helping teen girls find their voice through creative writing. By 16, she was named the Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles, and three years later, she became the first national poet laureate while studying sociology at Harvard.
Flashback to Biden's inauguration
Remember when Gorman rocked the mic at The White House in 2021? She recited her original poem "The Hill We Climb," celebrating diversity, calling for unity, and even referencing the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
