So, California Rep. Ted Lieu—yes, that Ted Lieu—kicked off the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday. Because, you know, why not?

Lieu, a Major in the Air Force Reserve, took his sweet time at the podium to gush about Vice President Kamala Harris' past efforts for affordable housing when she was Attorney General in California. Cue the heart-eyes emoji.

Who is he: Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) represents California's 36th Congressional District. No, not Texas. Geography is hard.
What role he plays: Rep. Lieu co-authored the Article of Impeachment and served as an Impeachment Manager for the second Senate impeachment trial of—you guessed it—former President Donald Trump, according to the House.

When and where is the DNC

The Democratic National Convention is happening from August 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois. Because Chicago wasn't already political enough.

The United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, will be the main venue for the DNC. Sports and politics: a match made in... somewhere.

Chicago has hosted the Democratic Convention 11 times, most recently in 1996 when the United Center saw President Bill Clinton nominated for a second time. History repeats itself.

How to watch and stream the 2024 DNC

The convention will air live on its website, from the United Center in Chicago between 6:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern (5:15 p.m. to 10 p.m Central) on Monday, and 7 p.m to 11 p.m. Eastern (6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central) the other days. Because who needs sleep?
