Texas AG Paxton's Voter Witch Hunt: LULAC Fights Back

Oh, Texas. You've outdone yourself again. This time, it's Attorney General Ken Paxton's office playing voter registration police, and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is not having it.

Paxton's office has been busy with "undercover operations" to sniff out illegal voter registrations. But according to LULAC, they've crossed a line by targeting elderly citizens and LULAC members in South Texas.

Gabriel Rosales, Texas LULAC's state director, is rightfully pissed. "I have been contacted by elderly residents who are confused and frightened," he said. "Attorney General Paxton's actions clearly aim to suppress the Latino vote through intimidation and any means necessary."

So, what's been happening? In Dilley, law enforcement allegedly forced their way into a private residence. At least five individuals were targeted, three of whom are LULAC members. Phone and computer seizures? Check. Civil rights violations? You bet.

Cecilia Castellano, running for state House District 80, had her home raided and her phone confiscated. Because nothing says "democracy" like scaring the crap out of potential voters and elected officials, right?

Paxton’s Election Integrity Unit announced it executed multiple search warrants and started "undercover operations" in major metropolitan areas. Because helping people register to vote is sooo suspicious.

"My office is investigating every credible report we receive regarding potential criminal activity that could compromise the integrity of our elections," Paxton said. Translate: "We're snooping around trying to prove voter fraud exists."

LULAC fired back, calling Paxton's actions reckless and hate-fueled. "It is disgraceful and outrageous that the state of Texas [...] is once again using the power of his office to instill fear in the hearts of community members who volunteer their time to promote civic engagement," Rosales said.

So, what's the call to action? Rosales urged people to "keep organizing and mobilizing" to smash voter turnout records. Yeah, let's show 'em, Texas!

And in case you were wondering, Paxton's office didn't bother to comment after LULAC's allegations. Surprise, surprise.

Stay woke, y'all. This is 2023, not 1950. 🤬 Fire up those voter registrations! 📝🗳️
