Walmart's Great Value Apple Juice Recall: Because Who Doesn't Love a Side of Arsenic with Their Breakfast?

Hey there, fellow liberals! Are you a fan of capitalism's finest, Walmart, for your apple juice fix? Well, you might want to check that label before you take a sip, comrade.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a voluntary recall for a whopping 9,535 bottles of Great Value Apple Juice. That's right, folks—the juice you thought was a "great value" might actually be a great health hazard. The recall, number F-1746-2024, was issued on Aug. 15, stating that the juice contains "inorganic arsenic above the action level set in industry guidance." Because who doesn't love a little arsenic with their morning juice?

On Aug. 23, the FDA upgraded the recall to Class II, which means "a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote." Isn't that just delightful?

But wait, there's more! The FDA says that "current research indicates that inorganic arsenic is more dangerous than organic arsenic." So, it's not just any arsenic; it's the bad kind. Long-term exposure in adults can lead to all sorts of fun stuff like skin disorders, increased risks of skin, bladder, and lung cancers, and cardiovascular disease. Short-term exposure? Oh, just nausea, vomiting, bruising, and numbness or burning sensations in the hands and feet. No biggie.

What You Need to Know About the Great Value Apple Juice Recall

Organic Arsenic vs. Inorganic Arsenic:

Inorganic arsenic is a confirmed carcinogen, so yeah, it's pretty bad. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it's a "chemical contaminant in drinking-water globally." Organic arsenic, found in seafood, is less harmful. But hey, why take the risk?

Who's Behind This Juicy Mess?

Refresco Beverages US Inc., located in Tampa, FL, issued the recall. Thanks a lot, guys.

Best By Date:

The recalled juice has a best buy date of December 2024. So, if you're planning a holiday party that year, maybe skip the Great Value juice.
