How to Register to Vote in the US of A

Register to Vote Online

Make it easy on yourself:

  • Hop on over to Vote.gov, the official voter registration site.
  • Select your state and get redirected to their registration page.
  • Fill out your deets to register for the first time, update your info, or confirm your status.

Register to Vote by Mail

Snail mail more your style? Download the National Mail Voter Registration Form, fill it out, print it, and mail it off to the location listed for your state.

How to Change My Voter Registration

When you register to vote or change your registration, you'll get a voter registration card in the mail. It's got all the good stuff:

  • Your name
  • Home address
  • Polling station address
  • Party affiliation (if you're into that)

Texas friends, if you're already registered, you can update your mailing address online with the Texas Secretary of State’s office: txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/sos/SOSACManager. Make sure you do it before Oct. 7!

Papers, Please! What Documents Do I Need?

Required documents vary by state, but usually, you'll need a driver's license or state ID. If not, a bank statement or utility bill should do the trick.
