Oh great, just what we need: Texas on top
Oh, sure, because heaven forbid we have a year without Texas thinking they're the center of the football universe. Typical.

Texas Wins Big by Literally Doing Nothing
Oh, the irony! While the rest of the top-ranked teams in the Associated Press' poll β No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 9 Missouri, and No. 10 Michigan β were out there losing like it's their job, No. 2 Texas (5-0) was just chilling, probably sipping some sweet tea. And guess what? They're still among the 12 undefeated Football Bowl Subdivision-level teams. Shocking, isn't it?
Texas, the darling of the US LBM Coaches Poll (currently No. 1, because why not?), could potentially snatch that top spot in the AP poll from Alabama. Imagine that! Topping both polls for the first time since a three-week stretch in 2008. It's like they say, "Work smarter, not harder." Or in Texas' case, don't work at all.
In the last 50 years, Texas has managed to be simultaneously ranked No. 1 in both the AP and coaches polls a grand total of, drumroll please, a few weeks! Here they are, in all their glory:
- 2008: 3 weeks (Wow, a whole three weeks!)
- 1984: 2 weeks (Be still, my beating heart.)
- 1981: 1 week (One whole week? Stop, you're spoiling us.)
- 1977: 6 weeks (Okay, that's practically a dynasty.)
But remember, they did beat USC for the national championship in 2005. So, they've got that going for them. Which is nice.
