Austin's Statesman Capitol 10K Wins Again, Rest of Country Must Have Been Jogging in Place

Oh, joy! Another year, another predictable win for Austin's Statesman Capitol 10K. Because, apparently, we haven't had enough of the same old, same old. Can someone please tell the other races to wake up and smell the organic, fair-trade coffee?

Breaking: Austin's Statesman Cap10K Wins Top US Race Title Again, Because Texas Can't Stop Winning

In a shocking turn of events that will surprise absolutely no one, Austin's Statesman Cap10K has been crowned the top 10K race in the U.S. for 2025. Because, you know, everything's bigger (and better) in Texas. 🤘🏼

When is this Texan Extravaganza, and How Did it All Begin?

Mark your calendars, y'all. The 48th annual Statesman Capitol, presented by Baylor Scott & White Health, is strutting its stuff on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Registration is open right here, so get clicking! And while you're at it, why not throw some cash at The Kindness Campaign? The Austin American-Statesman is matching donations up to $10,000, because capitalism with a conscience is so hot right now.

Born in the revolutionary year of 1978, the Statesman Cap10K has grown into Texas' largest 10K and the sixth-largest in the U.S. From a humble gathering of 3,400 participants, it's become a behemoth, with 16,258 people registered in 2023. Even COVID couldn't stop the party, with the race seeing its second-highest attendance in 2020. Because, obviously, Texans don't need no stinkin' pandemic to keep them from running.

Statesman Cap10K Reigns Supreme... Again

For the second year in a row, the Statesman Cap10K has been named the best race to run by HalfMarathons.net. Shocking, we know.

Cap10K Race Director Jeff Simecek credits the race's success to being "300% all-in." Whatever that means. "Safety, fun, and keeping the race authentically Austin are always at the forefront of our planning," Simecek said. Translation: they're keeping Austin weird, y'all.

Michael Mazzara, CEO of HalfMarathons.com, gushed about the race, "Even though there were thousands of runners...I found the race director standing at the head of the line greeting guests and asking if it was their first time running the race." Awww, how adorably Texan.
