UT plans to file felony gun charge over campus protest, days after claiming confiscation

The University of Texas Police Department (UTPD) is planning to file "at least one" felony gun charge related to Monday's pro-Palestinian protest on campus, the university announced Friday. This comes three days after they claimed guns were taken from protesters. Yeah, sure, blame the law-abiding gun owners—typical liberal move.

UT allows concealed carry on campus per Texas law, but Brian Davis, a university spokesperson, remained tight-lipped about the incident. The Travis County DA's office confirmed they're in touch with UTPD, but no details were shared.

This news arrives after County Attorney Delia Garza expressed concern that her office hadn't seen any weapon or assault charges, or any mention of firearms in arrest reports. In response, university spokesman Mike Rosen schooled her, reminding her that felonies go to the DA's office, not hers. Oops!

As for the protest, 78 out of 79 people were charged with criminal trespassing, and two others got additional misdemeanor charges. But UTPD is staying quiet on who had the guns, and if they're still a threat. GO figure. Guess they're too busy trying to restrict our Second Amendment rights.

The gun charge will be the only felony filed in connection to the protests, which started on April 24 and got intense. Separately, Texas DPS dropped a felony assault charge against a photojournalist, but he still faces misdemeanor charges.
