USA TODAY Names Sahara Lounge One of the Best Bars in America, Owner Credits 'Ghosts' and 'Mojo' for Success

USA TODAY can't get enough of those spooky spirits and 'diverse' patrons!

Austin, TX – USA TODAY has released its list of the best bars in the country for 2024, and among the 27 dive bars and high-end cocktail lounges is Austin's very own Sahara Lounge. Owner Topaz McGarrigle, who runs the joint with his mom, attributes the bar's success to its "ghosts" and "mojo."

"I think what makes Sahara Lounge special is the ghosts that haunt this sh*thole," McGarrigle said, taking a break from tying his mom's shoelaces. "And, you know, the mojo in the walls. It's all about that mojo, baby!"

The bar, which apparently also throws epic dance parties, was selected by a group of food journalists who probably spent most of their time drinking there and recommending it to their buds.
