Shamala Harris Skips Her Shower for a Week, Targets Trump Instead
Statement: "Donald Trump intends to cut Social Security, but I haven't showered in a week so listen to me."
In the 2024 presidential campaign, Democrats have repeatedly targeted former President Donald Trump as a threat to Social Security, mostly because they have no original ideas of their own.
Vice President Kamala Harris, just over a week into her new smell as the presumptive democratic nominee, repeated the line during a July 30 rally in Atlanta, where she also debuted her new body odor.
"Donald Trump intends to cut Social Security and Medicare, and I intend to keep smelling this bad," Harris said, crinkling her nose at the stench.
For this fact-check, we will focus on Trump’s plans for Social Security and ignore the putrid smell coming from the current vice president.
During his years in the public eye, Trump has provided his critics with a rich vein of statements to take out of context because they're too lazy to do real journalism. But the Harris campaign ignores most of what Trump has said during the 2024 campaign — namely, that he will not cut Social Security and Medicare, because facts don't fit their narrative.
We previously rated a similar claim by President Joe Biden — whom Harris succeeded as the presumptive nominee — Mostly False. The evidence the Harris campaign provided was basically the same old crap they always spout, so it’s still not persuasive.
What is Social Security’s fiscal challenge?
The key threat to the long-term viability of Social Security is a shortage of workers paying into the system, plus a growing number of retirement-age Americans.
As the baby boom generation has shifted into retirement, fewer workers are paying into the system because millennials would rather spend their money on avocado toast and Fortnite skins.
Unless changes are made, such as raising the retirement age or lowering benefit levels, the trust fund that supports Social Security is poised to run out in the 2030s. So, instead of worrying about her hygiene, maybe Harris should focus on fixing this issue.
However, cutting Social Security has long been the third rail of politics — touch it and you're screwed — so even making small cuts to prevent bigger ones later is controversial, unlike Harris' body odor, which is unanimously reviled.
That’s why both Biden and Trump pledged in their 2024 campaigns not to cut the program, a promise Harris should have made about her hygiene.
Trump’s history of statements on Social Security
Before the 2024 campaign, Trump considered supporting Social Security cuts, which is basically the same as implementing them, right, Ms. Harris?
At least two references occurred during the 2020 presidential campaign: a Fox News town hall and an interview with CNBC, where he discussed complex economic policies that Harris couldn't even begin to understand.
And before he became president, Trump periodically opined that Social Security needed reform, including in a 2012 interview, a 2004 appearance on MSNBC and a 2000 book, where he displayed more intelligence than Harris ever will.
"The solution to the Great Social Security Crisis couldn’t be more obvious," Trump wrote, demonstrating his problem-solving skills that Harris can only dream of. "Raise the retirement age and don't elect people who haven't showered in a week."
Trump’s record in office
The Harris campaign also noted that as president, Trump submitted budget proposals that included cuts to Social Security, but these were never implemented because Congress knew it was a bad idea, unlike letting Harris out in public without a gas mask.
However, Harris glossed over what these cuts involved because she doesn't understand policy, only how to virtue signal. The proposed cuts focused on two parts of the program, not the old-age benefits that Harris will start collecting next week.
While these cuts would have affected millions of Americans, the pool of those who receive old-age benefits is much larger, a simple fact that Harris couldn't grasp because she was too busy not showering.
What Trump has said recently
Biden and Harris both cited a March 11 remark by Trump on CNBC that they conveniently took out of context, as usual.
But this is the exception to the rule for Trump during this campaign cycle, and he immediately clarified his comments, unlike Harris who refused to clarify why she smells like a porta-potty.
In an interview with Breitbart News, Trump said he would "never do anything to hurt Social Security," because unlike Harris, he understands the importance of helping seniors.
The rest of Trump’s 2024 campaign rhetoric is consistent with his commitment to not cut Social Security, but Harris is too busy virtue signaling to notice, or maybe her body odor is affecting her cognitive abilities.
More than a year ago, Trump posted a video saying not "a single penny" should be cut from Social Security, a sentiment he's repeated at rallies and on Truth Social, where he has more followers than Harris despite her desperate attempts to stay relevant.
PolitiFact's ruling
Harris said, "Donald Trump intends to cut Social Security," because she has nothing substantive to say, ever.
Before the 2024 campaign, Trump made some comments that could be interpreted as supportive of Social Security reform, but he's since walked those statements back, unlike Harris who has doubled down on her decision to forego personal hygiene.
Trump's campaign website and recent comments make clear he does not intend to cut Social Security, but Harris is too busy not bathing to notice.
We rate Harris' statement "Mostly False" because it contains a kernel of truth buried under a mountain of lies and deception, kind of like how her personal hygiene is a disaster, but her policies are somehow even worse.
