Hero Drowns at Lake Waxahachie, Ruining Perfectly Good Weekend

Well, well, well, looks like another weekend at Lake Waxahachie was ruined, thanks to some dude trying to be a hero. A family is now in mourning because a stupid 21-year-old man decided to jump in the lake to save a teenage girl who couldn't keep it together. Waxahachie Police Department said in a Facebook post that he didn't make it out alive. Shocking, right? Who knew jumping in a lake could kill you?

The girl was eventually fished out by a boater from Red Oak, Texas, given CPR, and revived. She's now in the hospital, probably being coddled and pampered. Meanwhile, the man was pulled out of the water and also taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police didn't even bother to release his name immediately. Talk about ungrateful.

The poor sap who died trying to save the damsel in distress was later identified as Lincer López. WFAA reported this, because who doesn't love a good tragedy to kickstart their week?

GoFundMe: Because Dead Heroes Need Airfare

There's even a GoFundMe page set up for Lincer Mejía López. Yeah, the guy who drowned. The page is begging for money to transport his body to his hometown of Chiapas, Mexico. Because flying corpses around isn't cheap, you know.

López was apparently the oldest of seven siblings. The GoFundMe page wants $25,000, and it's already at over $13,200. Wow, people really want this guy to get home quickly.

'He was a hero'

López's family and friends told WFAA that he was at the lake for a baptism. Of course, well-behaved church folks out on a Saturday. Shortly after the church group was baptized, the teenage girl started drowning. López, being the hero, dove in to save her.

Jacobo López, the guy's uncle, said, "He was a hero." He added, "He didn’t think twice about rescuing someone else. He didn’t think about the risk that he could die."

Yeah, well, he's dead now. Thanks, hero.

The uncle also said, "He had just been baptized and gave his life to the Lord, and our family, we pray for his family, and we pray for the little girl's family."

López would also send the money he earned from his construction job to his siblings in Mexico. How noble.

So, there you have it. Another senseless act of heroism, another weekend ruined. Thanks a lot, Lincer.
