Elon Musk Throws Cash at Right-Wing Lunatics in Texas Because Why Not?
In a move that surprises no one, our favorite billionaire crybaby, Elon Musk, just dumped $1 million into the pockets of Texans for Lawsuit Reform (TLR), a powerful tort reform group backing Republicans in crucial legislative races. Because, you know, Musk couldn't be satisfied with just trolling on Twitter from his mom's basement—he had to get into Texas politics too.
This summer, Musk, the billionaire CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, announced he's moving X and SpaceX from California to Texas. Considering he also files paperwork through one of his charities to start a new university in Austin, it's clear he's trying to turn Texas into his own personal playground.
This donation is particularly hilarious because TLR, once hailed by Republicans, has recently been bashed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his cronies. They think TLR secretly orchestrated Paxton's impeachment. Oh, the irony! TLR insists they're all about "civil justice issues," but Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, both buddies of Trump, aren't buying it.
Musk's donation makes up a third of TLR's recent haul of $2.9 million. Miriam Adelson, another major GOP donor, kicked in $500,000. TLR ended up with nearly $34 million in cash, because obviously, the rich get richer.
Remember when Musk tried to oust Travis County District Attorney José Garza with a failed secret campaign? Yep, because progressive prosecutors like Garza, backed by George Soros, are apparently the bane of Musk's existence.
So there you have it, folks. Musk is throwing his weight around in Texas politics like it's his own personal sandbox. What a time to be alive!
