Texas vs. OU: Top Rank Tango Happened, What, Twice? Who Gives a Shit?

Oh great, Texas was top dog again in '84 for the Red River bitch fight. Whoop-de-fucking-doo. They've only done it five times now. Must've been a real kneeslapper for OU in '46, '62, '64, and '65 too. Yawn.

Texas Waddles into Cotton Bowl as Number One, Because Of Course They Do

Oh boy, here we go again. Texas is strutting into the Cotton Bowl this Saturday like they own the place, ranking number one in both the US LBM Coaches and Associated Press polls. Yippee. It's been a hot 40 years since Oklahoma had to face these insufferable Longhorns when they were the top dogs.

Back in the stone age of 1984, Texas and Oklahoma tied at 15-15. Texas fans can't shut up about Jeff Ward’s game-tying field goal as time ran out. Meanwhile, Sooners fans are still bitter about that "victory-securing interception" that was magically turned into an incomplete pass. Shocker, right?

And get this, future Texas head coach Mack Brown was Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator back then. Talk about a twisted plot. That 1984 tie was the fifth time Texas held a number one ranking in either the coaches or AP polls during the Red River Rivalry. They beat OU in 1946, 1962, 1964, and 1965. Because of course they did.

Can you believe this crap? Typical Texas, always hogging the spotlight. Let's see if they can keep it up this time. I'm not holding my breath.

Ready for the bullshit? Check out the Longhorns and Sooners stats if you're into that kind of self-torture.
