Texas Tough: Hurricane Beryl Can't Keep Texans Down
Texans are tough, but Hurricane Beryl was tougher, leaving 1.3 million without power as of Thursday [https://abc13.com/centerpoint-power-outage-map-houston-hurricane-beryl-restoration/11439294].
The storm knocked out electricity to over 2 million people at its peak, but our boys at CenterPoint Energy got the lights back on for more than half of 'em by Wednesday night. Entergy Texas is also in on the action, already restoring power to more than 50% of affected customers, with a goal of getting 75% back by Friday. [https://x.com/EntergyTX/status/1811199856855138766]
Government Gets an Earful
Some Texans are giving the government, energy companies, and ERCOT an earful after days without power and in the midst of a heatwave.
One disgruntled fella spray-painted his feelings under a Houston highway. Now that's what I call feedback!
The Real Tragedy: Lives Lost
Seven folks lost their lives in the storm, including Russell Richardson, a brave Houston cop who drowned on his way to work. Our thoughts and prayers are with his blue family.
Maria Loredo, a grandmother, was also taken too soon when a tree fell on her home. Sheriff Gonzalez reported the tragic news. Our condolences go out to her family. Trey Baxter, a spokesperson, said it best:
"We are deeply saddened by these losses and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends affected. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of all residents as we continue our recovery efforts."
Hurricane Beryl may have packed a punch, but Texans are tougher. Let's get those lights back on and get Houston roaring again.
