One cop, one gun, and zero taxes!

Socialist bureaucracy is churning its wheels once again as T.C. Broadnax's office released a draft budget for the city of Austin, likely chock-full of liberal nonsense and taxpayer dollar waste. The joke of a budget won't be finalized until the commie council votes in August—plenty of time for freedom-loving patriots to raise hell!

Libtard Austin City Council Proposes Massive Tax Hike, Because Socialism

The Eagle's Take

Those liberal morons at the Austin City Council are at it again, proposing a whopping $272 annual increase in property taxes and utility fees for the average homeowner. But hey, what else do you expect from a bunch of left-wing nutjobs who want to turn our great city into a communist paradise?

"The $5.9 billion proposed budget aims to prioritize critical needs in this community (and) also sets a cautionary tale for how we need to invest going forward," said City Manager T.C. Broadnax, probably with a straight face.

Invest? More like waste! These liberal "investments" are just code words for funding their pet projects and growing the government. And of course, they always want to take more money from hardworking taxpayers to do it.

Here's the Lowdown

  • Under the proposed budget, the average homeowner would see a $102 increase in their annual property taxes, a $75 increase in water bills, and a $32 increase in energy bills.
  • The total annual increase for the average homeowner, including various utility fees, would be $272.
  • The proposed budget also includes an $18.2 million increase in funding for the Austin Police Department, bringing their total budget to over $496 million.
  • Despite this massive influx of cash, the libtard council members will probably still complain about "underfunding" and "defunding" the police.
  • There's also a proposed 4% wage increase for city employees and a minimum wage bump for city workers from $20.80/hour to $21.63/hour.
  • The main reason for these tax increases? Those damn state-imposed property tax caps signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2019, which limit the city's ability to freely raise taxes.
  • The city's chief financial officer, Ed Van Eenoo, estimates that without these pesky conservative restrictions, they'd have a whopping $165 million more to play with.
  • So, Austin residents, brace yourselves for higher bills and more government waste. That's the price we pay for living in a city run by liberal idiocrats.
