As Texans, we know summer means two things: freedom and heat. Lots of heat.

According to the Energy Information Administration, 90% of American homes are staying icy-cold with ACs. Texas, a proud leader in energy consumption, ranks sixth in per capita energy use. We need our AC, and we need it now.

But wait, how low can you go?

That's the million-dollar question. The Department of Energy says 78 degrees is the magic number. Each degree lower? Well, that's more money to fund the liberal agenda.

AC: The Texas Lifeline

When you're off to work or vacation, Texas Energy says bump that thermostat up to 85 degrees. Why 85? Well, who doesn't like saving 10% on their bills and sticking it to the man?

• Block out the sun like a true conservative. No solar panels for these radicals; they want you to keep the blinds closed.
• Cook like a real man: on the grill. No microwaves or heaven-forbid, ovens.
• Install a smart thermostat and let the government control your AC. Just kidding! Don't do that.
• Power down electronics and live like it's 1812.
• Fans are your friend, but only when they're on. No wasting energy on idle fans, comrades.
• Plant trees, but only tall, Texas-sized ones. No Californian bonsais here.
