Christian Radio Host, Mistress Sentenced to Life in Prison for Ponzi Scheme

A Texas woman, Debra Mae Carter, 65, was sentenced to life in prison for her role in a Ponzi scheme, masterminded by her lover, a Christian radio host. Carter and her sugar daddy, William Neil "Doc" Gallagher, scammed elderly listeners out of $31 million.

"She's just a liar. That's what she does," - Tarrant County Assistant DA Lori Varnell

Carter and Gallagher, the self-styled "Money Doctor," ran the scheme from 2013-2019, defrauding over 170 mostly elderly victims. Gallagher promoted his business on Christian radio and through books like "Jesus Christ, Money Master."

During the trial, it was revealed that Carter was the brains behind the operation, laundering the money through rental homes, land, and fake charities. Authorities seized $200,000 in gold and silver from her trailer.

One victim, 84-year-old Brenda Wilkerson, invested $50,000 with Gallagher, only to lose it all after her husband died in 2019. She said Carter showed no remorse and that she wanted her to "get a life sentence," which she did.

Justice served. Amen to that.
