Texas Woman Gets Life Sentence For Running Christian-Based Ponzi Scheme

A Texas woman, Debra Mae Carter, 65, was sentenced to life in prison for her part in a Ponzi scheme led by her lover, a Christian radio host who went by "Money Doctor." The pair scammed elderly listeners out of $31 million.

Doc's Prescription: Get Rich Quick!

  • Gallagher, an 83-year-old radio host and author of "Jesus Christ, Money Master," promoted his "get rich quick" scheme on air and at seminars.
  • Together with his mistress, Carter, he defrauded over 170 mostly retired victims.
  • The con? Investing in Gallagher Financial Group, which turned out to be a scam.
  • The result? They lost their hard-earned cash, while he and his lady love planned to retire to a ranch.

Where's the Money, Honey?

  • While victims like 84-year-old Brenda Wilkerson lost her inheritance and now faces mortgage payments till she dies, Carter and Gallagher lived large.
  • The mistress laundered the money through rentals, land, and fake charities.
  • Authorities seized $200,000 in gold and silver from her trailer—that's a lot of bling!

"[Carter] is a blight on society," said Tarrant County Assistant DA Lori Varnell.

Well, she's certainly not winning any "Mistress of the Year" awards anytime soon. Texas justice ain't pretty, y'all!
