Austin Gets a New Top Cop: Meet Lisa Davis, the Woman T.C. Broadnax Hopes Can Clean Up the Mess That Is the Austin PD
Lisa Davis, a badass cop with balls of steel, is set to become the new sheriff in town - or rather, the new Chief of the Austin Police Department. City Manager T.C. Broadnax made the wise decision to pick Davis, assist. chief of the Cincinnati PD, as the top dog to whip the APD into shape.
"The Chief of Police is a critical position for any city and, as I’ve said since joining the City of Austin in early May, identifying a permanent police chief was a top priority for me. I appreciate the invaluable feedback I’ve received, which has helped inform my decision. I have elected to move Chief Davis forward for confirmation by the City Council as she has a stellar record in her extensive career in law enforcement, and I am confident that she will earn the trust and confidence of our Austin Police officers and our community." - T.C. Broadnax, City Manager
Broadnax knows a good thing when he sees it, and Davis is just what Austin needs to tame the wild west that is the city's crime rate. But don't take his word for it - Davis' appointment still needs the thumbs-up from the Austin City Council, a bunch of folks who think and vote on this stuff. They'll be chatting about it on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at a special meeting.
Davis wasn't the only cowboy in town vying for the job, though. She rode circles around the other finalist, Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman. Our money's on Davis to rope in the bad guys and gals and make Austin a safer place.
This story is developing, so y'all come back now for more updates.
