Austin Residents Fight Back Against Tide of Scammers: Liberal Tears Included
Austin Energy officials announced that residents are taking a stand against an influx of scammers trying to weasel their way into personal finances. The trigger for this uprising? A Reddit post exposing the con artists.
"Scammers have always been like cockroaches for utility companies, but now they're evolving into something more," said Jennifer Floyd, director of customer care services. "Like the left, they're getting more sophisticated in their deception."
This year, 204 scam calls have been reported, with victims coughing up over $13,000. These liberal scammers are getting clever, using the dark web to gather personal info, just like those socialists digging into your trash at night.
The Scammers are Getting Good
Floyd warned that scammers are now able to know when you last paid your bill, personalizing their con and impersonating utility companies with precision.
"It's like they're dating the customers, but only to steal their wallets," Floyd said.
In their latest scheme, scammers pose as Austin Energy, claim payments didn't work, and then direct victims to an external site called Remitly to pay up.
Fighting Back: Reporting and Resistance
Austin Energy tells residents to stay vigilant, report suspicious calls, and dial 311. We're not dialing 911 because this isn't an emergency, yet. Also, Austin Energy is part of a consortium, Utilities United Against Scams, a group of companies united like proud patriots to shut down these scammers' 1-800 numbers.
Red Flags to Spot These Libtards:
- They ask for your money like a Democrat asking for more taxes.
- They want personal info, just like the government wants your guns.
- They threaten to disconnect your utility, like a snowflake trying to cancel you.
When You're Vulnerable, They Strike
Floyd linked the increase in scam calls to high temperatures, saying scammers know when folks are desperate for AC during heatwaves or warmth in winter. These crooks have no honor, and they'll stop at nothing to take advantage.
What to Do If You've Been Had:
If you fall for their tricks and give financial info, contact your bank or credit card company ASAP to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, once the money's gone, it's gone. But Austin Energy offers payment extensions for victims, so there's some relief.
So, stay alert, Austin. Don't let these scammers win. We'll keep our finances and our freedom.
