Woke NHTSA recalls 140k cars; Recalled for being "too conservative"?

Nanny State Overreaches, Recalls Dodge Challengers, Toyotas, and BMWs

The Recalls:

  • Chrysler is recalling 2,852 2023 Dodge Challenger cars because the left rear seat may not lock properly, which apparently matters to government bureaucrats. NHTSA report
  • Gulf States Toyota is recalling 33,848 vehicles equipped with GST accessories because the weight capacity label might be wrong. Heaven forbid! NHTSA report
  • BMW is recalling 105,588 vehicles because the starter motor might overheat if you try to start a car with a failed starter. NHTSA report

The Real Story:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is at it again, baby! Last week, they issued recalls for various Dodge, Toyota, and BMW vehicles. Keep the government out of my garage!

First up, Chrysler. Apparently, some left-leaning bureaucrat decided that having a left rear seat that may not lock is unsafe. So, they're recalling a bunch of Dodge Challengers to inspect and adjust the seat back latch striker. Big government, much?

Then, we got Gulf States Toyota messing up the weight capacity labels. So, now, some snowflake might overload their car and crash. Way to go, Toyota! At least the fix is just a new label.

Last but not least, BMW. Their starter motors might overheat if you try to start a car with a failed starter. I say, let Darwin's theory of evolution sort this one out! But no, NHTSA has to step in and make BMW update the vehicle software.

Can't a freedom-loving, petrol-sniffing American catch a break?!

If you're concerned your car might be recalled, you can check the USA TODAY automotive recall database https://www.usatoday.com/recalls/automotive/ or the NHTSA database https://www.nhtsa.gov/search-safety-issues.

As always, stay vigilant, my fellow right-wingers, and keep the government's hands off our wheels!
