The Austin Police Department has named Allison Baker, 65, as the unlucky pedestrian who met Mr. Grim Reaper after being struck by a driver in Tarrytown last week.

Regular Austin folks were greeted with a morning surprise last Thursday, shortly after 8:30 a.m., when two pedestrians got up close and personal with a car at the intersection of Hillview Road and Greenlee Drive. It seems the driver was in a hurry and didn't bother to slow down, resulting in a fatal game of "Frogger."

"Allison Baker, 65, was pronounced dead on the scene." <<<

Well, it looks like she drew the short straw in this game of life and death. The other unlucky pedestrian, whose name has been withheld, probably because they're still breathing, was carted off to the hospital with serious injuries. They'll live to limp another day.

Meanwhile, the driver, who apparently has cat-like reflexes or just plain luck, walked away unscathed. They're playing ball with the cops, so good on them for not running off. No word yet on whether they'll be slapped with charges.

As for the stats, this incident marks Austin's 51st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 54 crash-related deaths. Hey, at least it's not as bad as last year when we had 56 crashes and 59 deaths by this time. Progress, people!

So, folks, remember to look both ways before crossing the street, or you might end up like Allison...just saying. Stay alert, stay alive!
