College Enrollment Spikes, Thanks to Females and Soc/Psych Majors.
Rising college costs, a global pandemic, and a botched FASFA rollout have sent prospective students into a frenzy. After years of Gen-Z'ers avoiding the lib arts coma, numbers spiked 1.2% in '23-'24, per the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.
No mentions of safe spaces or critical race theory... yet.
Here's the lowdown:
- Enrollment spike: 176,000 more undergrads in '23. Community colleges and for-profits gained, while 4-year unis dropped. Source
- Ladies rule: 60% of enrollees in '22 were women. The ratio's widening, so hook up while you can, fellas. ED source
- Biz and health reigns: For a decade, business was the top degree. In '21-'22, health took over. Other popular choices: social sciences, psych, bio. Basically, easy majors reign.
- Costsinlfare ridiculous: Tuition and fees at public 4-year colleges up 179.2% in 20 years. Education Data Initiative source
- FASFA fail: The financial aid form screwed over low-income students, per USA TODAY. Leftist bureaucracy: screwing over the little guy since forever.
