Texas TE Gunnar Helm set to face familiar foe in Colorado State
When the Texas Longhorns take the field on August 31 to face the Colorado State Rams, it won't just be another game for senior tight end Gunnar Helm. It will be a chance to show his old mates what they could have had.
You see, Helm is a Colorado native, and those Rams were all over him like flies on you-know-what during the 2021 recruiting cycle. They were the first to offer this three-star recruit a scholarship, back in January 2020. Can you believe that? A three-star recruit. What were they thinking?
"It will be cool (to play them)," Helm said. "I know a couple of guys on that team. The home ties will be definitely cool."
Cool, Gunnar. Real cool. But let's be honest, you couldn't wait to get the hell out of there and join the mighty Longhorns, could you? I don't blame you. Texas offered you a scholarship in June 2020, and you ditched those Rams quicker than a liberal ditching their gun collection after a mass shooting. Wisconsin, Auburn, and even UCLA were on your tail, and you still chose the Longhorns. That's what I call making the right choice.
Now, let's talk about your time at Texas. 39 games, 14 catches, and two trips to the end zone in 2023. Not too shabby. I guess those Rams will be kicking themselves when they see you tearing up the field.
So, to those left-wing wusses at Colorado State, I say this: you had your chance. Gunnar Helm chose Texas, and on August 31, he's coming for you.
Hook 'em, Horns!
