Breaking: Liberal Nutsos Try to Block Austin Charter Amendments with Lawsuit
The Austin City Council, in their infinite wisdom, allegedly violated the Texas Open Meetings Act when placing a bunch of charter amendments on the Nov. 5 ballot. A bunch of leftie groups, including the tree-hugging Save Our Springs Alliance and their boss Bill Bunch, filed a lawsuit against the Council on Monday in the Travis County 98th District Court (because that's where the real crime is, folks!).
The Austin City Council is becoming lawless... Mayor Watson and the Council majority are undermining democracy...
- Bill Aleshire, former Travis County judge and lawyer for the plaintiffs
These snowflakes claim that the Council violated public participation and notice requirements by squishing all the amendments into one agenda item. They're basically trying to invalidate the whole process and keep the amendments off the ballot this year.
The amendments these lefties are freaking out about? Common-sense stuff like:
- Making it harder to recall a City Council member (because stability matters!)
- Letting the Council appoint and fire the city attorney (duh)
- Having initiative elections and citizen-led charter elections on the big boy November general elections
But don't worry, folks, the Council is already working on a response to this nonsense. Stay tuned for updates on how these liberals try to waste more of our tax dollars in court.
