2024 Election: Harris Remains Narrow Betting Favorite Over Trump, History Shows Odds Usually Predict Winner

Democratic nominee Kamala Harris (https://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/kamala-harris/) is hanging on to her role as the narrow betting favorite over Republican nominee Donald Trump (https://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/donald-trump/). While U.S. bookmakers can't legally take part in the action, they're probably feeling a twinge of FOMO seeing the vice president ahead, even if it's just for the honeymoon phase.

The "honeymoon" might come to a screeching halt at the Democratic National Convention, which kicks off Monday. Will it give Harris a boost, or will it be a bust? Time will tell, but for now, the odds remain the same as last week at the big, bad Bet365:

  • Harris: -125 (oh, the odds are against you, girl!)
  • Trump: EVEN (yup, even odds, just like his tan)

Covers.com has the deets on the odds, and they vary ever so slightly from Bovada and BetOnline. Harris is ahead, but it's like she's running in heels trying to keep ahead of the Trump Train:

  • Harris: -115 (Bovada), -120 (BetOnline)
  • Trump: -105 (Bovada), EVEN (BetOnline)

According to The Conversation, a nonprofit news organization, the betting favorite has only lost twice since 1866. That's some serious crystal ball stuff:

"The betting favorite has only lost twice since 1866, according to The Conversation, a nonprofit news organization."

The underdogs triumphed in 1948 when Harry Truman (D) beat Thomas Dewey (R), and again in 2016 when Trump himself pulled off an upset. Maybe there's hope for Trump yet.

In 2020, Biden was the odds-on favorite with Oddschecker from May to November. Will history repeat itself, or will we be in for another Trump-sized surprise? Stay tuned, grab your popcorn, and keep your bets running. This election is going to be a doozy!
