DNC Drama: James Taylor's 'Fire and Rain' Turns into 'Sorry and Disdain'

The lefties were all set to have a grand ol' time at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday. James Taylor, the folksy singer-songwriter, was supposed to serenade the liberal masses alongside country star Mickey Guyton and Americana singer Jason Isbell.

But in a twist of fate that had conservatives chuckling, Taylor was a no-show. Guyton and Isbell played their tunes, but Taylor's slot in the 9 p.m. block—right after Jill and Ashley Biden's touchy-feely speeches—was conspicuously empty.

Where on Earth Was James Taylor?

DNC officials came up with a laughable excuse, blaming "raucous applause" for the delay. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, they claimed, "Because of the raucous applause interrupting speaker after speaker, we ultimately skipped elements of our program to ensure we could get to President Biden as quickly as possible..."

Right, because we all know how hard it is to schedule an extra 10 minutes for a song about friendship. Taylor was spotted rehearsing his hit "You've Got a Friend" earlier in the day, as seen in this viral footage.

Taylor's Apology: Liberal Tears Included

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Taylor finally addressed his absence. He wrote, "We had a great rehearsal with @RickeyMinor and terrific singers, @KenyaHathaway and Mathew Johnson before the event. But it became clear, as the evening unfolded, that there wouldn't be time for our 'You've Got a Friend' with cello and voices. Maybe the organizers couldn't anticipate the wild response from the floor of the United Center…"

Taylor's publicist, Allison Elbl, told USA TODAY that there are "no plans to reschedule" the performance. Taylor concluded his post with, "Anyway, sorry to disappoint. But a great and inspirational, quintessentially American moment. We were honored to be there…"

Day 2: More Liberal Pretense

Day 2 of the DNC kicks off at 5:30 p.m. CT/6:30 p.m. ET. Expect more virtue signaling from the likes of Barack and Michelle Obama, JB Pritzker, Tammy Duckworth, Bernie Sanders, Michelle Lujan Grisham, and Dougie Emhoff.
