Libs in Tears: Young Walz Steals Spotlight at DNC

In a moment that surely sent tear-jerking waves through the snowflake crowd, the youngest spawn of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz had a dramatic reaction during Daddy Walz's speech at the 2024 Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night.

Walz, the VP pick of Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris, gave his acceptance speech, blah blah blah. He gave a shoutout to his family—wife Gwen, 23-year-old daughter Hope, and 17-year-old son Gus, who were all camped out in the United Center in Chicago.

“Hope, Gus and Gwen – you are my entire world, and I love you,” Walz said, in a line that probably had the audience reaching for their kleenex.

Little Gus couldn't contain himself, jumping out of his seat, mouthing "That's my dad! That's my dad!" like he'd just won the lottery. He even pointed his finger, shouting "I love you, dad." Aww, isn't family politics just adorable?

Call him Coach: Tim Walz, governor and congressman, chooses a folksier intro to voters. Yawn.

Gus Walz: The Real Secret Weapon?

Gus Walz, 17, the youngest child of Walz and Gwen, has ADHD, a nonverbal learning disorder, and an anxiety disorder. In a recent statement to People Magazine, the Walzes (both former teachers, go figure) said they noticed his differences early on and never considered his conditions an obstacle.

"Like so many American families, it took us time to figure out how to make sure we did everything we could to make sure Gus would be set up for success as he was growing up," the couple said.

"It took time, but what became so immediately clear to us was that Gus’ condition is not a setback — it’s his secret power," they added.

Because in 2024, apparently, every Democratic family needs a superhero origin story. Stay tuned for more liberal tear-jerkers!
