Chicks Sing, Dems Win?

Y'all, The Chicks ditched ‘Dixie’ faster than a hot biscuit in 2020. Now they’re clucking at the DNC on Thursday. Talk about a real rebrand!

Lib-tastic Finale: Kamala Harris Crowned at DNC, The Chicks Sing Anthem

The 2024 Democratic National Convention wrapped up in Chicago on Thursday, with Vice President Kamala Harris officially grabbing the party's presidential nomination. You know, just your average lefty shindig.

In a move that'll make your patriotic heart burst, The Chicks (formerly known as The Dixie Chicks) performed "The Star-Spangled Banner." They changed their name back in 2020 because, you know, "Dixie" was suddenly too Confederate-y.

"We want to meet this moment," they said on their website. Hence, the name change and a new song called "March March", filled with protest footage and names like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

Fun fact: They almost changed their name to "M.E.N." so they'd go from "chicks to MEN." Strayer explained this on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

Maines told Colbert they'd been trying to ditch "Dixie" for ages, using "DCX" and "The Chicks" on the side. Finally, in June 2020, they made the switch official.

Patriotism theft: Kamala Harris tries to make Democrats look patriotic, snatching the flag from the GOP.

Maines: I'd Rather Smooch Bush than Trump

The Chicks aren't strangers to politics. In 2022, Maines admitted on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" that Trump made her miss George W. Bush.

"You know, I joke that today I might actually make out with George Bush," she laughed. "I don't rethink that I didn't want to go to war... But, yes, it would be a huge love fest if I saw George Bush right now because of where we're at with this current president."

Despite their massive popularity in the late '90s and early '00s, country radio dumped them in 2003 when Maines openly criticized Bush. They haven't bumped into the Bush family since, but hey, they did meet him before the drama.
