Hawaii Braces for Double Tropical Trouble: Storms and Wildfires!

Hold Onto Your Hawaiian Shirts, Folks!

Hawaii is getting ready for a double whammy of heavy rain and windy conditions as the island faces not one, but two tropical threats. The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting that Tropical Storm Hone will pass south of the Hawaiian Islands this weekend. And, just for kicks, it's expected to strengthen into a hurricane southwest of Hawaii late Sunday into Monday. Talk about a weekend gone wild!

Storm Hone: The Uninvited Guest

"This system is located about 310 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, moving west northwest around 14 mph,"NWS

On Saturday, the NWS issued an immediate tropical storm warning through Monday, bringing "extremely strong winds" that will cause hazardous seas, capsize or damage vessels, and severely reduce visibility. Thanks, but no thanks, Mother Nature.

"An area of high pressure north of Hawaii is going to be steering this storm."Bernie Rayno, AccuWeather’s chief on-air meteorologist

But wait, there's more! Weather experts are also predicting an "elevated risk for wildfires".

Hurricane Gilma: The Distant Threat

The NWS also said that the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida is issuing advisories for Hurricane Gilma, currently around 1650 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii. So far, so good?
