Attention, Patriots: Skip Walmart's 'Great Value' Poison Juice!
Hey, you frugal freedom fighters who shop at Walmart, listen up! You might want to double-check that apple juice before you chug.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a voluntary recall for 9,535 eight-ounce Great Value Apple Juice bottles sold in a six-pack. Turns out, this "great value" comes with a side of inorganic arsenic, exceeding industry guidelines. Yep, you read that right—arsenic!
The recall, numbered F-1746-2024 and issued on Aug. 15, was upgraded to a Class II recall on Aug. 23. In plain English, it’s bad enough to cause temporary health issues or, in rare cases, even worse.
The FDA says inorganic arsenic is the bad guy here—potentially linked to skin problems, cancer, and heart disease. Short-term exposure can make you puke, lose feeling in your hands and feet, or give you some nasty bruises.
So, what’s the deal between organic and inorganic arsenic? The WHO says inorganic arsenic is a carcinogen found in water, while organic arsenic in seafood is less harmful.
Refresco Beverages US Inc. in Tampa, FL, is the culprit behind this recall. The juice in question has a best-by date of December 2024 and was sold in various states.
