Heatpocalypse: Midwest Sizzles While Hawaii Braces for Double Hurricane Whammy

Buckle up, folks! The upper Midwest is about to become a giant pizza oven, while Hawaii is playing dodgeball with not one, but two hurricanes.

Chicago, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis are about to feel the burn with excessive heat warnings coming their way. The National Weather Service says, "Forecast highs in the mid-90s to near 100 combined with high humidity will send heat indices into the 105–115-degree range." It's gonna be hotter than a political debate on CNN.

Meanwhile, Hawaii is saying "Aloha" to Hurricane Gilma, hot on the heels of Hurricane Hone. Two named storms haven't come this close to Hawaii in the same week since 1992, according to AccuWeather. Gotta love that tropical two-step!

Hurricane Hone: Hawaii's Wild Weekend

Hawaii got a taste of Hurricane Hone on Sunday, with up to 18 inches of rain and winds whipping up to 60 mph. Now, Hurricane Gilma is crashing the party, packing 115 mph winds and aiming right for the islands. The hurricane center says Gilma should weaken, but not before giving Hawaii a good scare.

Heat Wave Ridin' High in the Midwest

While the Midwest roasts with excessive heat warnings, the West is saying goodbye to autumn early. "Some locales can see an increase in afternoon high temperatures of up to 35 degrees in just a handful of days," says AccuWeather Meteorologist Grady Gilman. Wildfires, anyone?
