The trigger-happy, big-government folks over at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration went on a recall rampage last week, targeting over 720,000 BMWs due to a water pump meltdown that could turn your Beemer into a bonfire.

Wondering if your ride's a rolling recall? If it ain't listed below, owners can check out USA TODAY’s automotive recall database or dive into NHTSA’s database for the latest lib-mandated recalls. Even the NHTSA site lets you search by your vehicle ID number or VIN – who said government ain't efficient? (They are.)

Tesla Hippie-Mobile Recall: Roof Trim Fly-Off

Tesla, the darling of the leftist elites, is recalling 9,136 of its 2016 Model X rides. According to the NHTSA report, the touchy-feely car company admitted, "the front and center roof cosmetic trim pieces may be adhered to the vehicle without primer." Meaning, one or both trim pieces could start flying off, causing a hazard.

Fix: Tesla service will glue the trim pieces back and make sure they stick. For free! Letters roll out around Oct. 14. Dial Tesla at 1-877-798-3752. Recall number's SB-24-12-008. Got it fixed before? Do it again, pal.

BMW Recalls – A Trifecta of Trouble

Left Side Beam Crack

BMW is calling back 1,150 of its 2024 i4 eDrive40, xDrive40, and M50 vehicles. The luxury brand said, "the left-side longitudinal beam may crack, compromising the structural integrity of the chassis." Battery could get whacked and spark a fire in a crash. See the NHTSA report for deets.

Fix: Dealers inspect, replace left-side beam for free. Letters out by Oct. 7. Call BMW at 1-800-525-7417.

Short Circuit Danger

BMW is recalling 12,535 of its 2020-2024 MINI Hardtop 2 Door (Cooper SE) rides. According to the NHTSA report, high voltage system might "pull a Tesla" and catch fire.

Fix: Dealers pump out a software update for free. Letters out by Oct. 7. Call BMW at 1-866-ASK-MINI (1-866-275-6464).

  • 2020-2024 MINI Hardtop 2 Door (Cooper SE)

Water Pump Mayhem

BMW is recalling 720,796 of its 2012-2018 vehicles, like X1, X3, X4, and X5. NHTSA report says the water pump plug might spark a fire. Sweet.

Fix: Dealers inspect, replace pump and plug, install a shield for free. Letters out Oct. 4. Call BMW at 1-800-525-7417.
