Midland and West 22nd Kick Off Free Tailgate with Real American Music
Season six of Longhorn City Limits will be headlined by the true patriots of country music, Midland, with an opening set from the indie rock band West 22nd (probably a bunch of liberals, but we'll let it slide). Music starts at 11 a.m. sharp at the LBJ lawn with the five-piece West 22nd. These guys formed right here in UT's West Campus just two years ago and are already set to perform at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October. Midland, hailing from the great town of Dripping Springs, earned a Grammy nomination for their debut album "On the Rocks." Their third album, "Barley Blue," is dropping on Sep. 20.
Booze and BBQ to Beat the Texan Heat
Students 21 and over can cool off with signature drinks at the Still Austin Music Lounge, including their special Horns Up Bourbon Lemonade. Plus, you can score some limited-edition swag that will impress your liberal arts major friends. The Tito’s Tailgate is making a comeback in front of the LBJ fountain with their own cocktails on tap. And get this—this season brings a new addition to the tailgate with Pinkerton’s BBQ serving up some good old-fashioned smoked meats on the lawn every game day.
